Philodendron 'Birkin' has a smaller habit and slower growth compared to the majority of philodendrons. We appreciate it for its heart-shaped leaves which appear entirely green and which develop beautiful white streaks when ripe. In fact, the 'Birkin' variety is a hybrid plant resulting from a mutation of the Philodendron 'Rojo Congo'. If you want to preserve its beautiful 'Birkin' genetics, it is recommended to cut the new leaves with red tints. These are the genes of the 'Rojo Congo' which is trying to regain the upper hand on the 'Birkin'. Philodendrons do not need high light to survive. However, the Philodendron Birkin prefers moderate to bright light in order to maintain its vibrant colors.
