Maxillaria tenuifolia, nicknamed " Coconut Orchid ", is an epiphytic orchid appreciated for its unique coconut fragrance and spectacular flowering. The flowers are medium-sized (4 to 5 cm in diameter), star-shaped, dark red to burgundy in color with yellow patterns and a white and purple spotted lip. It flowers in spring or early summer. It needs a dormant period in winter (cool and reduced watering) to rebloom. Also, the orchid prefers non-calcareous water and to be watered by drenching.
