The Maranta Leuconeura ‘Black Band’, also known as the prayer plant, is a rare and elegant variety of Maranta leuconeura. It is distinguished by its velvety oval foliage, deep green bordered with black, crossed by lime green veins that create a spectacular contrast. Like all Marantas, its leaves fold upwards at night, resembling praying hands — a natural movement that gives it a unique charm.
It requires little light to thrive but enjoys a warm and humid environment. It does very well in a hanging pot. We recommend watering with demineralized water, which can be purchased at a pharmacy, or with rainwater. Melted snow works very well! Marantas do not tolerate the excess minerals found in tap water very well. This excess can cause root burn and damage the foliage.
