Cereus jamacaru, often called mandacaru cactus in Brazil, is a majestic columnar cactus adapted to dry and arid environments. It is highly valued for its upright and imposing habit, forming large branched columns that can reach 4 to 6 meters in height in its natural habitat, sometimes more. Its cylindrical stems, bluish-green to dark green, bear prominent ribs garnished with woolly areoles from which rigid, sharp spines emerge. With age, it takes on the appearance of a shrub or small tree cactus. The flowering of Cereus jamacaru is particularly spectacular: it produces large, funnel-shaped white flowers, nocturnal and fragrant, which can measure up to 25 cm in diameter. After flowering, bright red, edible, and appreciated ovoid fruits appear, sometimes called mandacaru.
