Calatheas have extraordinary foliage. The variety 'Northern Lights' is a rare and very decorative variety, appreciated for its vibrant and changing foliage. Its coloration is a superb blend of deep greens with iridescent reflections ranging from blue, purple, or pink depending on the light — hence its name inspired by the aurora borealis. It requires little light to thrive but enjoys a warm and humid environment. We recommend watering with demineralized water, which can be purchased in pharmacies, or with rainwater. Melted snow works very well! Calatheas do not tolerate the excess minerals found in tap water very well. This excess can cause root burn and damage to the foliage.
