Calatheas have unusual foliage. Its slender foliage patterns and varying shades of green draw the eye. The purple underside of its leaves add elegance to any decor. Calatheas are also called Peacock Plants because their leaves resemble peacock feathers. They require little light to thrive, but thrive in a warm, humid environment. We recommend watering with demineralized water, which can be purchased at a pharmacy, or with rainwater. Melted snow works very well! Calatheas do not tolerate the excess minerals found in tap water very well. This excess can cause root burns and damage the foliage.
